Nerve Conduction Velocity Studies (NCV’s)

A nerve conduction velocity test (NCV) is a non-invasive procedure that tests for nerve injury or illness by determining the conduction and amplitude of the nerve signal to determine conditions such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Ulnar entrapment, neuropathy, etc. A small electrical impulse is sent down the nerve to be collected by a surface electrode to measure the speed of conduction and the intensity of the signal. Decreased conduction velocity and/or decreased amplitude may signify a nerve problem. It is an accurate non-invasive way to determine nerve and muscle problems that often present with numbness, tingling, weakness or pain.
